Living in an antique house, in Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, one of my last design projects was the kitchen renovation. The new kitchen had high polished cabinets on the perimeter walls and a peninsula with stained wood cabinets. The heart pine floors were restored to retain some of the vintage character and a custom marble mosaic backsplash hinted at historical motifs. Double-hung windows were replaced with casements which opened to the garden. The enclosed staircase to the basement was unveiled with a lowered wall, allowing a feeling of greater space and an opportunity to store cookware and feature artwork.
